The Communication Mistake Most Senior Leaders Make (And Don't Realise)

The biggest communication mistake I see in senior leaders isn't saying the wrong thing.

It's saying too much in the hope of landing on the 'perfect' thing.

People take in very little of what we actually say to them. A slightly uncomfortable fact if you spend your working life, as I do, helping people communicate better. But rather than finding that depressing, I've come to find it genuinely liberating.

Because it means your job as a communicator isn't to be perfect. It's to connect.

Why are you saying what you're saying? Who are you saying it to? And why does it matter to them - not to you, to them?

This is exactly what an actor has to figure out before they speak a single line. Not what their character knows. Not what their character wants to say. But why they're saying it to this particular person, in this particular moment.

Once you find that, everything else follows naturally.

I work with senior professionals who are exceptionally good at what they do. The ones who make the biggest leaps aren't the ones who learn more content. They're the ones who learn to trust that less, said with genuine intent, lands harder than more, said perfectly.

Your listeners don't need to know everything you know.

They need to feel that you know why you're talking to them.

If this resonates, book a free discovery call and let's talk about what you're working towards.
